Trading with Green Dot

How to send, claim, and confirm a Green Dot trade on MatchPay — plus the deadlines that decide whether your funds arrive.

Supported option MatchPay supports the Green Dot Send Money option only.

Step 0

Before you start

A trade can match without these, but the transfer won't go through — and the trade won't complete. Confirm all three before you accept.

You're a Green Dot cardholder An active Green Dot card is required — a bank account alone won't work.
Your account is verified Your identity must be verified inside the Green Dot app before you can send or claim.
You have the Green Dot app Both sending and claiming happen in the app, so keep it installed and signed in.

Not accepted for MatchPay trades

MoneyPak Never use MoneyPak for a MatchPay trade. It is not a valid payment option.
Paper checks Paper checks don't qualify and cannot be verified as a MatchPay transfer.

How it works

Two sides, two jobs

A Green Dot trade isn't done when the money is sent — it's done when the money is claimed. Find your side below.

Sending money

You're transferring funds to your counterparty

  1. Open the Green Dot app and sign in.
  2. Go to Pay.
  3. Choose Send Money. This is the only option MatchPay accepts.
  4. Choose Add recipient.
  5. Enter the recipient details shown on your MatchPay trade screen. Copy and paste the email or phone exactly — never type it from memory.
  6. Enter the exact trade amount.
  7. If a note or reference is required, enter gift in the Memo field. This protects your Green Dot account.
  8. Complete the transfer and save your proof.
Save proof of transfer in case the credits aren't confirmed as received:
  • The Green Dot confirmation screen
  • The transaction reference
  • The transaction date and time

Claiming your money

Your counterparty has sent — now collect it

  1. Open the Green Dot app once MatchPay shows the transfer as sent.
  2. Find the incoming transaction.
  3. Verify the sender matches the account shown on your MatchPay trade screen. Security step — if the sender doesn't match, don't claim. Report the problem in MatchPay.
  4. Tap Claim on the transaction.
  5. Confirm the full amount is available to use in your Green Dot balance.
  6. Return to MatchPay and select I have received the credits.
Claim first, confirm second. Never confirm the trade in MatchPay before the funds are successfully claimed in Green Dot — once you confirm, the trade is settled.

Important to know

These three rules cause the most lost funds on Green Dot trades.

Warning: You have 10 days to claim

Green Dot's Terms & Conditions give recipients up to 10 days to claim funds. After that, Green Dot may return the money to the sender. This window is set by Green Dot, not MatchPay.

Warning: Wrong details can't be refunded

Neither Green Dot nor MatchPay can issue a refund if the email address or phone number is entered incorrectly. Always copy the recipient details from the trade screen.

Warning: Send Money only

MoneyPak and paper checks never qualify as valid payment options for MatchPay trades. A trade paid any other way cannot be verified or protected.

GreenDot_Send_Details Sending trader

Please use the following details for your transfer: Green Dot: {recipient_handle}. Save proof of transfer in case credits are not confirmed as received.

GreenDot_Send_Method Sending trader

Within Green Dot go to Pay, Send Money and Add recipient. Paper checks and MoneyPak don't qualify as valid payment options for MatchPay trades.

GreenDot_Send_Memo Sending trader

In order to protect your Green Dot account, please use a note/reference of "gift" if required to notate anything in the Memo field.

GreenDot_Claim_Instruction Receiving trader

Transfer complete. Please go to your Green Dot account and Claim the transaction to confirm {amount} was received and is now available for you to use. For security reasons verify that the account sending the credits is {sender_handle}. Once confirmed, please return to MatchPay and select "I have received the credits".

Values in {braces} are filled in from your live trade. This page never shows real trade details — always take the recipient address and amount from the trade screen itself.

Next step

Ready to trade with Green Dot?

Green Dot has to be set up in your trade settings before MatchPay can match you on it.

Add Green Dot in Trade Settings and keep your email or phone current — an out-of-date address is the most common reason a Green Dot transfer never arrives.
